Strategic Communications Failure

January 21, 2010

Alastair Campbell speaks today of a strategic communications failure, surrounding the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Let me be absolutely clear. This comment is at the heart of why we went to Iraq in the face of massive opposition. Why nothing, anyone could have said, would have stopped it.

The opposition to the unnecessary, unwinnable Afghanistan conflict, and the illegal Iraq conflict, was not a result of a massive communications failure. We got the message from number 10. Loud and clear. It was just clearly wrong, and based on lies.

Opposition to both  conflicts, was informed. It was an opposition which clearly understood the flaws in planning,  the lies in the justifications, and the dangerous long term consequences.

The dismissal of this opposition as a failure in strategic communication, is a failure of democracy, not PR.
