Question.

April 7, 2010

HAve been very busy this week, so I have  question.

Am I to understand that a video which clearly illustrated how we are conducting ourselves in the Middle East barely made the news?

The bill that was supposed to provide the backbone of our digital economy-a bill opposed by everyone within that economy and which protects the corporate interests of few obscenely wealthy people, who are showing they can’t adapt to that economy- was passed.

A bill which was the equivalent of letting the scribes dictate how the guttenberg press should be used, and has the potential to restrict the communication of millions at the whim of those interests-how the fuck was that bill passed- with not so much as a decent debate?

Our option for change are pushing the agenda of christian right,  and their advisors  are figuring out how to suck a few million in profit from massive cuts they propose, and the best way to hand over our public services to profiteers?

This election is a pantomime performed to mask the fact that democracy in this country may not be fit for purpose. Voters are held in contempt.

Something weird.

April 7, 2010

When I was a little girl I couldn’t bear food with a pale colour, and creamy texture.

Custard, cream, mayonnaise,  yoghurt, vanilla ice cream. I would only eat red cheese, and couldn’t eat lasagne unless the top half had been taken off, any suggestion that the bechamel had touched my portion resulted in the immediate threat of chunder.

Macaroni cheese, a dinner lady who was surely a muse for Roald Dahl, and a complete infringement of my bodily autonomy- VERY upsetting childhood memory.

Quite a few of my mealtime memories from childhood are like that. ..I might write a ‘misery lit’ like Frank McCourt or Dave Pfeltzer, call it ‘My childhood of bushtucker trials”..Cheddar cheese served up instead of cockcroaches

I digress.

Rachel has exactly the same dislike. I grew out of it so she has never seen me turn my nose up at these things (being brutally honest, dairy probably forms 70% of my diet now)

Weird.

(possibly dull, but it’s my blog and I don’t care!haha)

Chaos

What do you get if you take a group of old friends, 17 of their children, and have them in your house for the day?

Question about the Digital Bill?

April 7, 2010

Am confused. If you take the civil liberties issue away. And even the downloads issue.

We need a bill to define the principles under which the digital economy is to develop. We need a bill which understands what the internet is, how it is going to change our society. How it has already done so.

Downloads issue aside- this bill doesn’t do that in anyones opinion.*

It has massive public opposition, the ISP’s who are central to it don’t want it.The public don’t want it. By no measure does it achieve the aims it was set out with

Rather than establish the presence the internet will have in our society, it concentrates on downloads(where there isn’t consensus that there is actually problem)- and is the equivalent of protecting the scribe’s business, in order to establish how the printing press should be used.

We are going into an election closer than any since 1992. It reinforces Labours position as a party who have absolutely no regard for civil liberties, which isn’t exactly news.

Yet they are rushing it through. Why?

This is a very big question. And arrogance doesn’t answer it.

*Link added later but well worth a read.
